THE MANDATE

The Canadian Guild of Stage Directors and Choreographers (CGDC) advocates for the rights, interests, and protection of professional Canadian stage directors, choreographers, and their assistants and associates. CGDC also aims to provide formalized mentorship and training opportunities for current and future generations of directors and choreographers, while fostering a community that is a safe and inclusive space for its members.

THE WHY

Because a strong, collective voice of Canadian stage directors and choreographers, along with their assistants and associates, has up until now been an untapped resource. We are here to facilitate mentorship and access to the industry, and to advocate for fair compensation and opportunity for everyone in our community. This field can be isolating, our goal is to clarify and demystify the theatre creation process while building a stronger community. We are excited to collectively build pathways to success and help realize the full potential of Canadian theatre creation.

TRACEY FLYE

"Mentorship has always been of paramount importance to me. So has equity in practice and remuneration, especially for emerging creative artists. The CGDC not only supports and fosters that all-important mentorship but is working towards overcoming obstacles in equity by providing opportunities that may, to date, have been out of reach for emerging creatives. That is why I support the CGDC.  The future of our artistic community, its health, its development, and the necessity to welcome new voices and new stories is our responsibility collectively and that is what the CGDC is about."
